drawElements Ltd. today announced that it has joined the Khronos Group to support open standards for consumer devices.
drawElements develops and licenses system software for embedded consumer devices. The goal is to make applications and application platforms less dependent on any specific hardware features. drawElements product portfolio and roadmap includes implementations of several Khonos standards.
"Khronos Group is the place to be for designing and standardizing system software interfaces", says Petri Kero, CTO of drawElements. "Software is all about features, while hardware is about performance. Combining them requires great skill, and Khronos has done a fantastic job. We look forward in sharing our extensive experience with Khronos, especially concerning the new OpenWF standard for user interface acceleration and OpenCL for parallel programming."
"Any ecosystem of standards needs skilled practitioners to influence their evolution and to help the industry bring them to life in real products," said Neil Trevett, president of the Khronos Group. "drawElements is highly skilled at the art of integrating advanced silicon and software and so we welcome them to Khronos and look forward to their contributions to the development of open APIs for making mobile visual computing a reality."
Founded in January 2000, the Khronos Group is an open, member-funded consortium committed to developing royalty-free standards which enables all members to contribute to the development of Khronos specifications, vote at various stages before public deployment, and to the delivery of their cutting-edge media platforms and applications through early access to specification drafts and conformance tests.
